Lawson “Dave” Burnham
November 14, 1930 - March 3, 2018
Lawson Davis Burnham, fondly known to his family and friends as Dave, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away at his daughter’s home, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Virginia on November 14, 1930, he was a son of the late George Edwin and Alma Grace (Preddy) Burnham, Sr. Dave proudly served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He started his career as an auto mechanic and then went to work Sears and Roebuck Company, in building maintence, where he retired after many dedicated years.
Dave was a member of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Elkton. He had a lifelong interest in collecting antiques and enjoyed working in his woodshop. More than anything, Dave was a devoted father and grandfather. He was actively involved in every aspect of his grandchildrens lives and attended all of their sporting and academic events. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Ann Burnham; sisters, Mildred, Edna, Grace and Nancy. He is survived by his children, Kelly Bacon (Joseph) and David Burnham (Kimberly); brothers, George, Jr. and Phillip; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his canine companion, Darby-Clarke.
Family and friends may gather from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s name to Season’s Hospice, 133 N Bridge St Ste B, Elkton, MD 21921.
