Leonard Alan Frescoln, age 64, of Gilpin Hall in Wilmington, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012.
Mr. Frescoln was born in Akron, OH on December 27, 1947, son of the late Leonard O. Frescoln and Joan E. Patten Frescoln. An exceptionally bright young man (and future member of Mensa), he was a graduate of the Peddie School, a college preparatory high school in Hightstown, NJ. He would go on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, and his MBA from the University of Delaware in Newark. He made his career as a manager of the Combustion Engineering Co., a mineral refining firm.
Active in his community, Mr. Frescoln was honored with many awards for service, including the Mary Custis Straughn Memorial Award (“Custie”) from the State Council on Persons with Disabilities.
In earlier years, he was an outstanding gymnast and greatly enjoyed canoeing and rafting. He had a passion for music throughout his life and enjoyed listening each day to National Public Radio.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert V. Frescoln of Wilmington and Gerald R. Frescoln of Apex, NC; and many good friends, including, Linda S. Heller of Wilmington, Lois Myoda of Wilmington, and Harrietta Kanda of Newark.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Gilpin Hall, 1101 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806. Interment will be held privately.
