Lonnie Louise Benjamin Veitch, age 56, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, surrounded by “her three best girls” Tina, April, and Autumn, and her best friend and fiancé, Freddie.
Born in Davenport, IA, on June 12, 1955, Lonnie was the daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin and Wanda Schemel Benjamin. She made her career with Miller Carpet One in New Castle as the top salesperson for many years.
Lonnie was devoted to her beloved family and delighted in spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children. She also loved her dogs, Harley and Gypsy, and looked forward to walking them each day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Theresa Walthers. She is survived by her fiancé, Freddie Catania; siblings, Lewis Benjamin (Nora), Margaret “Maggie” Benjamin, John Benjamin, Vivian Beeler (Daryl), and LaVerne Benjamin; brother-in-law, Gilbert Walthers; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, including “her three best girls” Tina Sexton, April Lantz, and Autumn Sexton; her best friend, Lisa Marcin (Mark); her many close friends in her “second family” at Miller’s Carpet One; her adopted daughter, Kylee Walls (Dustin); and her adopted granddaughter, Layla.
The family extends their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their many kindnesses to Lonnie during her illness.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Friday, February 3, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 5 pm.
