Mrs. M. Elizabeth Conner, known fondly as “Lib,” age 98, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Penn Acres in New Castle, DE, passed on peacefully to her Eternal Father on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on October 23, 1913, Lib and her beloved sister were the only children of Harry Banks Jones and Mary Curry Jones. As a young child, she lived in Elsmere and Stanton.
Lib married Robert Russell Conner and had two sons, Robert Harry Conner and William Stephen Conner.
She was a longtime member of the Church of the Nativity in Manor Park, New Castle, where she served on the Vestry and the Altar Guild, and, after retiring from the State of Delaware, worked as the church secretary for a number of years. She loved her church and her Delaware roots, and especially her sister’s beach cottage in Fenwick Island, where she spent many summers.
In 2009, after her 96th birthday, she moved to Greensboro, NC, to live with her son, Billy, and his wife, Sharon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her son, Robert, and her beloved sister, Edna M. Murphy. She is survived by Billy and Sharon; her grandchildren, Jeb Conner of Brooklyn, NY, Tyler Conner (Candice) of Jamestown, NC, Erin Conner Egan (Chuck) of Wilmington, DE, and Ryan Conner (Jill) of Philadelphia, PA; daughter-in-law, Cathy Conner; great grandaughters, Kyleigh, Addison, Chloe, and Callie, with another great granddaughter due next month.
The family would like to thank Dr. Zachary Swartz and his team at Moses Cone Rehabilitation Center, Dr. A. Ramachandran, her primary care physician, and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Church of the Nativity, 206 Sykes Road, Manor Park, New Castle, DE, where visitation will be held from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. Interment will follow in St. James Church Cemetery, St. James Church Road, Wilmington, DE.
