Marguerite A. (Poist) Samis

Marguerite A. Samis, age 85, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
The youngest of nine children, Marguerite was born in Port Deposit, MD, on September 28, 1926, to Charles S. Poist and Jesse (Jackson) Poist. She grew up in a big white house on the corner of 900 Market Street overlooking the Chesapeake Bay in Havre de Grace, MD; then lived in the New Castle area for 40 years, where she raised her family. For the past two years, she resided at Regal Heights Healthcare Center in Hockessin, DE.
Marguerite loved white picket fences, wildflowers, antiques, yard sales, homemade potato salad, Maryland hard-shelled crabs, and playing her guitar and piano. Most of all, she cherished her three sons and always exercised her mother’s prerogative with, “Wear your hat when you go outside,” whenever they parted company.
Her husband of 58 years, John A. Samis, predeceased her in 2003. She is survived by her three sons, John C. and wife, Sharon, of Bear, DE, James J. and wife, Gail, of Parsonsburg, MD, and Gregory M. and wife, Darlene, of Newark, DE; her loving sister, Eva Ledman of Havre de Grace, MD; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff of Regal Heights for their compassionate care and loving support of our mother.
Per Marguerite’s request, a Mass of Christian Burial and services will be for family only.
