Maria Altagracia Galeas (née Díaz)

January 25, 1948 - August 7, 2025

Maria Altagracia Galeas (née Díaz) passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Newark, Delaware. She was born on January 25, 1948, in San Felipe, El Salvador to the late Cristino Espinal and Fernanda Díaz.

Maria’s life journey took her from her birthplace to the United States, where she spent her later years. Maria met Edgardo Galeas in 1976 while living in Maryland. They were married on April 08, 1978 in Baltimore, MD. Together they raised two children: Richard Galeas, and Jessica Cooke (née Galeas) and created a beautiful life together. Her presence touched the lives of those around her, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Maria worked as a homemaker and often volunteered in the community. She devoted her life to her family and helping others. She was an inspiration for her children and taught them that with faith and family, anything is possible.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Fernanda Díaz; father, Cristino Espinal; and her brother.

Maria is survived by husband, Edgardo Galeas-López; sister, Enemecia Díaz; son, Richard Albert Galeas; daughter, Jessica Maria Cooke; stepson, Edgar Stewart Galeas; and grandchildren, Nicholas Jacob, Norah Grace, Camila Maria, Emerson James and Michael Anthony. Her grandchildren were her world and she loved spending her time cooking, gardening, decorating, and watching sports with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness and wonderful sense of humor.

May her memory bring comfort and peace to those who mourn her passing. The family has entrusted Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home with the arrangements. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Holy Angels RC Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am.
