Maria T. Zelenski

Mrs. Maria T. Zelenski, age 84, of Newark, DE, formerly of Wilmington, went home to the Lord on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
Born in Germany’s Bavaria region on August 12, 1927, Maria was a devoted daughter of Kaspar Fuermann and Viktoria Scherm Fuermann. She married her husband, Edward Zelenski (who was stationed with the US Air Force in Germany), in 1954. Edward was transferred back to the United States and Maria followed shortly thereafter, sailing to America and entering through Ellis Island in January 1955. A professional seamstress, Maria worked for many years at the former Kennard’s Department Store in Wilmington.
Maria was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She was a caring and devoted sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend, and was always available to help others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, George Fuermann. She is survived by her sister, Viktoria Rhoades of Newark, with whom she lived in her later years; her brother, Kaspar Fuermann and his wife, Maria, of Germany; and her brother-in-law, Joe Zelenski and his wife, Pat, of Pennsylvania. Her nieces and nephews were like her children; Christa Mowery, Pat McDerby, Bill Rhoades, Anita McCloskey, Susanna Fuermann, Barbara Ann Pish, and Joe, Mark, and Mike Zelenski and their families will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
