Marianne Poole

August 17, 1932 - March 6, 2019

           Marianne Poole, age 86, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

            Born in Weston, WV on August 17, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Philip R. Lough and Virginia (Moon) DeBlossio.  Marianne was a book keeper and head cashier for Jack Lang’s Clothing and retired after several dedicated years.  In her early days, she worked for the Wall Street Journal in San Francisco.

            Marianne was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them, especially her grandsons and great grandsons and her four-legged “children.”  In her youth she enjoyed gardening, bowling and skating.  In later years Marianne loved reading mysteries, poolside picnics, the family trip to Hawaii and the Dallas Cowboys.      

            In addition to her parents and brother, Robert Lough, Marianne was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert L. Poole.  She is survived by her daughters, Pamela White Forte of Bear and Danette Eberly (Bruce) of Bear; grandchildren, Michael Eberly (Kate) of Newark; Samuel White (Heather) of Newark; Mitchell Forte of Newark; Jennifer Eberly Peterson of Minnesota; sister, Peggy Ritchie of Tenneessee; great grandchildren, Anthony, Luke, Redmen and Cassidy.

            A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, March 11, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am.  Interment will be held privately.

            Many thanks to the people of Seasons Hopice for their sensitive care, especially Amy.

            In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marianne’s memory to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Delaware Chapter, 100 W. 10th Street, Suite 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • I’m beyond sad for EVERYONE; especially for Sam who adored his grams VERY much, she left way too soon. She was such a vibrant spirit. I only met her a few times & she left a huge impression. I’ll remember her fondly. She will be missed always!!!
