Marie F. (Gilkey) Thayer

Marie F. (Gilkey) Thayer, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
Born in Wildwood, NJ on July 18, 1926, Marie was raised in Old New Castle and was the daughter of the late John and Amanda (Cox) Gilkey. She was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family.
In her leisure time, Marie enjoyed swimming and trips to local casinos. She was a gifted guitar player and sang with her late husband in various bands throughout the Tri-State area.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen C. Thayer. She is survived by her daughters, Alberta McCary of New Castle and LuAnn (Ellsworth) Curlett and husband, Raymond of Wilmington; 2 grandchildren, Michael Noronowicz and wife, Chrisvianti and Lisa Marie Breslin, all of New Castle; 2 great grandchildren, Ian Breslin of Wilmington and Kyle Breslin of Florida; and stepdaughter, Sandra Thayer-Moore of St. Georges.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Marie’s caregiver, Della (Robinson) King and to LeeAnn and Tiffani of Compassionate Care Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Services and interment will be held privately.
