Mrs. Marilyn J. Corbitt, age 77, of Bear, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
Mrs. Corbitt was born in Brownville, NY, on October 16, 1934, daughter of the late Harold VanKoughnette and Burnetta Wagoner VanKoughnette. A talented homemaker throughout her life, she greatly enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and shopping–especially bargain hunting at yard sales. Most of all, she delighted in caring for and spending time with her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton P. “Lum” Corbitt, Sr., and her brother, Gene VanKoughnette. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Blaire S. and Adam Albanese, with whom she lived; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey S. and Deborah Shullette of Dexter, NY; eight grandchildren, Diana, Jessica, Brandy, Kristin, Kara, Katrina, Katie, and Gus; seven great grandchildren; and her pet dog, Emmy.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery on Clinton Street.
