Mario M. Salgado

Mario M. Salgado, age 96, of Newark, DE, and formerly of Ocean View, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Born in Veiros, Portugal, on July 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Paul and Annarosa Salgado. Mario proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines. He worked as a chemist lab technician at DuPont Co. Chambers Works in New Jersey for 39 years until his retirement.

Mario enjoyed giving back to his community as an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Grand Knight and member of Coffee Run Council #6768 in Hockessin. Throughout the years he was an active member of his neighborhood civic associations. Mario enjoyed learning about history, especially the Civil War. He travelled extensively with his wife, Mary, throughout the United States and Europe, including many cruises.

In addition to his parents, Mario was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (Guiomar) Salgado. He is survived by his children, Arlene A. Kelso and Kathy S. Wyka (Ken); sisters, Rose Resende and Nazareth Sanchez; 3 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
