Marion Ida (Hoff) Messick

Marion Ida (Hoff) Messick, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014, after a lengthy illness and in the loving care of her grandson, Rick and his partner, Lisa.

Born in Plains, PA on June 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hoff and Mildred Parks. Marion raised her family in Philadelphia, PA and was a resident of New Castle for the past 37 years. She worked at the Brass Rail Restaurant at the Philadelphia International Airport, Champs Restaurant and the Ramada Inn in New Castle. After retiring, Marion was devoted volunteer at the Emanuel Kitchen. She was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities, including helping in the church’s food bank.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edmond P. Messick and son, Billy Baker. Marion was a loving mother to her children, Barbara Baker, Diane Schoen (Steve) and Sharon Maines. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Rick and Lisa, Eric, Ron and Stefanie, Jason, Patrick and Melissa, Sarah and Ron and Lisa. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved pet, Maggie.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2014, at the Hope Lutheran Church, 230 Christiana Road at Edinburgh Drive, New Castle, DE 19720, where a visitation will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
