Marshall R. Young

Mr. Marshall R. Young, age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Christiana Hospital after complications from a heart condition.
Born in Wilmington on April 15, 1933, Mr. Young was the son of the late Carter F. Young and Leona Reed Young. He was a lifelong resident of Newark and graduated from Newark High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, graduated from boot camp and sea school, and reported aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin (B.B.64), where he was a member of the Marine detachment which formed the ship’s landing party and security force. After sea duty, he was assigned to Lakehurst Naval Air Station and served out his enlistment, attaining the rank of sergeant.
In civilian life, Mr. Young spent much of his career as a supervisor in a concrete plant. After his retirement, he accepted a position in transportation with the Rockford Center.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Marjorie Watkins Young; daughter, Vicki Knotts and husband, Brad, of Middletown; sons, Daryl and David Young, both of Newark; beloved grandsons, Kevin and Kyle Knotts, both of Middletown; brother, Jake Young, and sister, Eleanor Jackson, both of Newark.
The Young family would like to thank the compassionate staff of the ICU at Christiana Hospital for their many kindnesses during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
