Martin F. “Marty” Hayburn

March 27, 1944 - June 28, 2023

Martin F. “Marty” Hayburn, age 79, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Martin A. and Jean (Finerty) Hayburn. Marty was a graduate of St. James High School in Chester, PA in 1962. He continued his education at the University of Dayton in Ohio, graduating in 1968. While in college, Marty joined the Phi Beta Alpha fraternity, eventually serving as vice president. He went on to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a department head for 31 years until his retirement.

Marty always looked forward to his annual vacation to Sea Isle City, NJ, a tradition he upheld almost his entire life. Closer to home at Locust Point Marina, he took any opportunity to get his boat, Let’s Roll, out on the water. Marty enjoyed giving back to his community and was a dedicated volunteer at the Food Bank. He cherished time spent with his family, and was quite involved in his children’s soccer and baseball games when they were growing up. Marty especially loved tending to his vegetable garden or cheering on his beloved teams, the Philadelphia Eagles & Phillies and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Marty is survived by his loving wife, Clementine (Barco) Hayburn; children, Martin Eugene, Jason Michael, Christopher Patrick, and Joshua; sister, Kathleen Steppke (Gary); and 8 grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marty’s memory to the Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, DE 19702 or online by clicking here.
