Mary Capobianchi
July 16, 1928 - January 14, 2026
Mary Capobianchi, age 97, of Newark, DE, completed her long and remarkable journey on this Earth on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. She left us peacefully at home, exactly the way she lived — with grace, strength, and a quiet determination that inspired everyone who knew her.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on July 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Fiorantino) Vona. Mary dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker.
Mary’s strength was immeasurable. Her life was a tapestry of resilience, love, and unwavering courage. She faced every challenge with a steady heart, fought every battle with dignity, and still found room to give so much of herself to others.
Ninety‑seven years is a long time to leave an imprint on the world, and she used every one of them well. Her wisdom shaped us. Her kindness steadied us. Her strength carried us. And her love — constant, unconditional, and fierce — will continue to guide us long after today.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace. Mary has stepped into a place of rest and light, reunited with those she loved, her spirit finally free from the burdens she carried so bravely. We thank her for every lesson, every sacrifice, every moment of love. She was a gift to this world and to our family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and in the strength, she passed down to us.
Mary will be missed beyond words, remembered beyond measure, and loved beyond time.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Capobianchi; children, Susan Giancaterino, Louis Capobianchi, and Anthony Capobianchi; son-in-law, John Fusci Zarro; and grandchildren, Michael Zarro and Kimberly McKenna. She is survived by her daughters, Anna Rodgers and her husband Raymond and Joan Zarro; grandchildren, Stephanie Kobialka, Courtney Jorgenson and her husband Kyle, Benji Giancaterino and his wife Lisa, Jacqueline Giancaterino, Veronica Lopez and her husband Ray, Jessica Putnam and her husband Chris, Anthony Capobianchi, Tina Capobianchi, and Angela Winans and her husband Kevin; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Zarro; and great grandchildren, Adam Marlin, Romeo and Maxwell Jorgenson, Nicolas and Dylan Giancaterino, Christian Lopez, Sophia and Domenic Zarro, Christopher and Vinnie Putnam, Liam and Cameron Winans.
