Mary E. “Marybeth” Campbell, age 67, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Marybeth was born in Springfield, PA on July 3, 1944, and was the daughter of the late John J. “Ben” Smith and Jane C. Martin Smith. A talented homemaker, she was a devoted wife and mother to her large family. Marybeth was a longtime member of Holy Family R.C. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Smith. Marybeth is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, Joseph B. Campbell, Jr.; her children, John D. Cooney, Jr. (Michelle) of Astoria, OR, Brian A. Cooney (Tara) of Petaluma, CA, Vincent M. Cooney (Debbie) of Newark, DE, Laura Jane Cooney-Estes (Christopher) of Newark, DE, Gerardine Berman (Dennis) of Frederick, MD, Joseph B. Campbell III (Amanda) of Ringtown, PA, and David Campbell (Zenobia) of Potomac, MD; brothers, The Rev. Jack Smith of Arlington, VA, Richard Smith (Vicki) of Chester, PA, Donald Smith (Mary Ann) of Springfield, PA, and Marty Smith (Inez) of College Park, MD; sister-in-law, Lynne Smith of Audubon, PA; 19 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Monday, May 21, 2012, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
