Mary E. Pierson

Mary E. (Palmer) Pierson, 90, formerly of Marydel, DE, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the nursing home Magnolia Manor of St. Simons Island, GA.
Born in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Palmer, Mary was the wife of the late Dayton W. Pierson, who died in 1979. She managed the family-owned grocery store and later worked at Quaker City Motor Parts as an office clerk until her retirement. She enjoyed being outside and especially working in the garden and selling her vegetables on the roadside stand. Mary, who had a kind and generous nature, will be missed dearly by her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Florence Legates of Kingsland, GA and Mary Whitesell and her husband Courtland of Camden, DE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lynn Robbins and her husband Steve and Harry Legates, Jr. and his wife Linda and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Harry Legates, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
