Mrs. Maryann P. Mitchell, known fondly as “Mare-Mare,” age 50, of New Castle, DE, passed peacefully from this world on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Christiana Hospital.
Born in Wilmington on January 22, 1963, Maryann was the daughter of the late Roger and Theresa Sammons of New Castle. She was employed as a night clerk with ACME Markets for 28 years.
In her leisure hours, Maryann was an avid student of the Civil War and often toured the historic battleground in Gettysburg, PA. She also enjoyed listening to music, especially her favorite recording artists: Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, and The Monkees. Maryann particularly looked forward to her visits with her brother Tom and the other residents of the Mary Campbell Center.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 16 years, George A. Mitchell; stepsons, Scott Mitchell and wife Jessica of Essex, MD, Edmond Mitchell and wife Christina of Newark, and David Mitchell and wife Hannah of Newark; step grandchildren, Brandon, Caleb, Jocelynn, and Juliana; and siblings, Elaine Kozlowski of Corner Ketch, Roger Sammons and wife Maxine of Brandon, MN, Kathy Garcia and husband Tom of Middletown, Tim Sammons and wife Kathy of New Castle, Pattie Pribish and husband Jim of New Castle, and Tom Sammons of Wilmington. Maryann is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Rick and Jerry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 7 pm on Wednesday, January 30th, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, where visitation will begin at 5 pm. The committal service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, January 31st, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
