Merritt Burke Williams - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Merritt Burke Williams

Merritt Burke Williams, age 85, of Selbyville, DE, and formerly of Minquadale, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Born in New Castle, DE to the late Launce V. and Katherine C. Williams, Merritt was raised and lived most of his life in the Minquadale community. Merritt was lovingly known as the “Mayor of Minquadale” earned by his friendly nature and fun-loving attitude.

Merritt was very proud of his lifetime membership with the Minquadale Fire Company and honorary membership of the Minquadale Ladies Auxiliary and was approaching his 59th year of membership. He enjoyed attending church and welcomed opportunities to sing during services. He was a lifelong lover of music and enjoyed picking at his guitar and ukelele. Merritt also enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball. Go Phillies!

For the past several years Merritt lived in southern Delaware and enjoyed attending the Easter Seals program. Always referring to it as “school,” Easter Seals was one of Merritt’s favorite places to be.

Merritt will be very missed by his lifelong caregiver and sister, Katherine Sekscinski; brother, Samuel Williams; sister, Gertrude Bolden; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Merritt’s memory to Easterseals Tunnell Center, Georgetown, 22317 DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE 19947 or online by clicking here
