Michael D. “Mike” Snow

June 29, 1976 - March 13, 2024

Michael D. “Mike” Snow, age 47, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wilmington, DE, on March 13, 2024.

Born in Portland, ME on June 29, 1976, Mike was a son of David W. Snow and the late Paula M. (Shunkwiler) Snow. Mike graduated from William Penn High School in 1994 and earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Salisbury State University in 1998. He then attended Wilmington University, where he earned his master’s in education. Mike found his true calling in teaching and his passion was not only proving that math could be fun, but also learning about each of his students and helping them through any challenges they may have faced. Mike was never prouder than when talking about the accomplishments of his students, past and present.

He loved art, music, the beach, fishing, and the sport of wrestling. Mike was most passionate about his family, friends, and the students he had the privilege to meet over the years. He was an advocate for social causes and always hoped to leave a brighter future than the present.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents. Mike is survived by his dad, David; brother, Jeff (Jessica); sister, Brianne; nieces Laney and Everly; his beloved dog, Maple; and numerous family in Maine.

Mike excelled at being a son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed more than he will ever know, but we know he is looking over us with our mom.

A visitation to celebrate Mike’s extraordinary life will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Gunning Bedford Middle School Auditorium. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mike’s favorite causes, Faithful Friends, 165 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here or to McCullough School, through the Colonial School District, 318 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or online by clicking here.

The family would like to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring support during this difficult time and remind everyone they are loved and needed. If you are struggling, please reach out for help.

  • I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • To Mike’s Family: I met Mike in 1994 at what was then called Salisbury State and we had a lot of fun for those 4 years. We reconnected on Facebook about 14 years ago and I remembered how much I missed his kindness and humor over those years in between. When I lost my son, Mike sent me so many kind messages and over the last decade, we’ve talked quite a bit via Messenger. I will always be sad that I never got to see him again or get one of his hugs. I am so so very sorry for the pain you’re feeling and the deep hole that he’s left behind. I am so sorry that all of his students have to endure his loss as well. But I am grateful for the times we spent together and I know he’s happy in his mom’s arms again! Sending your family all my love.

  • Mr Snow thank you for being an awesome teacher to my son Gianni and so many other students. I remember how you helped him out when he wasn’t doing so well by encouraging him. He was so sad to hear of your passing. Rest well.

  • I first met Mike in college through some other friends. Years later, we reconnected at a friend’s wedding. It was then I realized he had become a middle school math teacher. I’m also a middle school math teacher and I recognized his passion immediately when he started talking about his students and his school. Soon after that, he found me on Facebook. Through Facebook it was again evident what an amazing educator he was. During the pandemic, he reached out to me and we discussed our challenges and he offered resources. I pray for his family and his school community. I hope he knows how important he was to everyone in his life.

  • I knew Mr.Snow my 7th grade year. He always knew how to brighten up the classroom. Mr snow was the only teacher to get me to understand math. Thank you for being there for each and every one of us. Your belief in our dreams and your encouragement helped us grow and achieve more than we ever thought possible. You saw potential in us that we didn’t even see in ourselves, and for that, we are forever grateful.

You not only taught us math, but you also taught us life lessons that have shaped us into the people we are today. Your kindness, patience, and genuine care for each student created a safe and nurturing environment where we could thrive and learn.

  • To Mr. Snow’s family,
Mr. Snow was the greatest teacher of all time. He helped me when I struggled with math when no other teacher could. Mr. Snow was not just a teacher to some of us he was a mentor, and someone that most of us needed in our lives. Mr. Snow did not only care about us learning what he had to teach us but he cared about the things that most of us had to suffer with whether it was school or homes issues. I will always remember Mr. Snow, I still talk about him to this day and I haven’t been in 7th grade for almost 13 years now. He left a great impact on all of his students and for that he is amazing. Thank you for everything Mr. Snow you will always be remembered.

  • Mike Snow, or Mr. Snow

He was not only my teacher, but the light of my day. He taught me so many things in life and changed my perspective as a person. I was bullied during 6th-7th grade and him being my 7th grade math teacher at the end of the day really changed me. He showed me that life will go around, but I can make through it and do good if I believe in myself and continue to walk forward through my path. Im so grateful to have him as a teacher and I pray for his friends and family. We all lost a good teacher, a son, a grandchild, a friend, a family member. We lost someone dearly special that really marked his place in his career. He will always and forever be missed.

  • As a fellow educator, my condolences on the loss of Mike. I am sure he touched the lives of so many that will keep his legacy alive. Praying for the Holy Comforter to be with your Family at this time.

  • Mr. Snow, It hurts me to be writing this, as I’m still coming to terms with your loss. You were my teacher, my mentor, and a friend that I could confide in.

When I got placed in McCullough as the IT field tech and seen Mike, I was flooded with nostalgia, and we caught up like old friends. I’ll never forget the kindness and empathy you shared with me during the time where my mother passed. It also when you revealed to me that you also had the same thing happened to you when you were younger. I’m glad that I was able to exchange words with you and sympathize with someone else that shared my pain. I’ll miss coming into your classroom and assisting you with your tech issues to make sure your class ran smoothly, I’ll miss our chats about the state of the world and how we can make it a better place. Thank you for everything, Mr.Snow. Rest well now.. Until we meet again.
