Michael G. Murphy, Sr., age 60, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Born in Wilmington, DE on July 18, 1960, he was a son of Grace (Cassidy) Murphy and the late John “Jack” Murphy. Mike worked as a plumber and pipe fitter for the DuPont Co. & FMC. He was a member of the Police & Fire Rod & Gun Club of New Castle as well as the Pulaski Legion of Delaware. Mike was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoyed getting coffee with his friends at the Basin Road Wawa. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, and sharing eggs and bacon with his grand dog, Bailey, on Sundays.

In addition to his father, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Pat Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Donna L. (Brittingham) Murphy; children, Kelli DiPersio of Newark, Jessica Murphy (Sean Drake) of New Castle and Michael Murphy, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; mother, Grace Murphy of Elsmere; grandchildren, Ameena, Johnny, Isabella and Jemini; great granddaughter, Mia; siblings, Kathy Sammons (Mike), Dennis Murphy (Stephanie), Maureen Dixon and Karen Setting (Victor); and sister-in-law, Diane Murphy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Face masks will be required for all in attendance. Services and interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713.

  • I often reflect on our trip to Florida (me & John, Margaret & Bob, Donna & Mike, Kelly & Steve). It was the BEST time spent with friends. We laughed the entire week. I will always have those memories of Mike and will have a big smile on my face every time they come to mind.

    We are very sorry for your loss. This picture of Mike is great! He always had a smile on his face(except when the Eagles were losing).
    We had great times at Marty’s house, Fatima carnivals, New Year Eve parties, the kids games, etc. Mike was a great person and we always had a fun time when he was around. I know everyone has wonderful memories of him! He is now your guardian angel and will be there for you always!
