Michael “Mike” Thomas Paulson - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Michael “Mike” Thomas Paulson

February 28, 1958 - May 18, 2020

Michael “Mike” Thomas Paulson, age 62, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on Monday, May 18, 2020.

Mike was born on February 28, 1958 to Charles and Patricia (Ferguson) Paulson in Wilmington, DE. Growing up Mike enjoyed spending many hours on the water boating with his father. He attended Newark High School and Del Tech Community College.

He met the love of his life, Anita and they married in 1982.  Mike and Anita were inseparable. They loved traveling, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends. Together they raised four beautiful children and went on to become grandparents to four amazing grandchildren. His most cherished role in life was being a devoted husband and father. He was a family man at heart and was his happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He enjoyed being surrounded by quality whether it was the projects he worked on or the people he chose to be with.

Compassionate, giving, genuine, and unwavering loyalty were some of Mike’s most evident qualities. Mike truly enjoyed his time as a volunteer baseball coach for over 27 years. He coached at various levels from T-ball all the way through High School and made a tremendous difference in the lives of the players and others he touched through his passion for the game.

Mike was a quiet, proud man of honesty, integrity, devotion and hard work. Those characteristics truly shined during his 37 years with EDiS Construction Management Company. Mike started his construction career with EDiS as a laborer and through hard work and dedication he worked his way up through the trades to a Senior Superintendent.

He had the perfect blend of kindness and orneriness. He was an inspiration to us all, forever cherished in our memory, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Anita (Pedicone) Paulson; his sons, Brandon Paulson and Christopher Paulson; his daughters and son in laws, Ashley and Jeremy Allen, and Amy and Kenneth Butler; grandchildren, Amaya, Jordan, Jacob and Lily; mother, Patricia (Ferguson) Paulson and the late Charles Paulson; brothers, John Paulson (Jane) and Robert Paulson (Marti);  Mike is loved and admired by mother-in-law, Jean Pedicone and the late Richard Pedicone. Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends and wonderful colleagues.

A public visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, in compliance with the COVID-19 regulations.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following morning on Monday, July 13, 2020, at 10 am at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to Penn Medicine Cancer Research at  givingpages.upenn.edu/rememberingmike, or to VFW Post 3420, 649 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702.

  • Dear Amy,
I am deeply saddened to hear about your father and how it has affected you and your family. You are a very precious spirit-though I do not know the remaining members of your family, I do believe in order for you to be ‘who’ and ‘what’ you are, they must have been an important influence as well as ‘fuel that fed’ and help to develop that special quality within you. You have a special place in my heart-I care and am praying for you and all those you love who share in the sadness that comes as a result of the ‘home-going’ of your father. Please know that special prayers are being lifted up for each of you- asking God to provide ( and for each of you to be able to receive) His PERFECT LOVE to occupy and fill the empty space that may have been created by the ‘transitioning’ of your father from this life into another; that God will grant (and that each of you will be able to receive) His PERFECT PEACE that gives you a calm and a ‘knowing’ that in spite of the situation, it will be ‘well’ again within your soul; and finally asking God to grant (and for each of you to be able to receive) His PERFECT JOY in knowing that the pain and suffering experienced by your loved one has finally come to an end. No matter what you and your family may encounter today, please know I am praying for each of you to experience a better tomorrow. ‘May the joy of the Lord be your strength’.

Perhaps your loved one would like to say:
“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. “

    With caring thoughts,
    Deb J.
