Michael Patrick Kerrigan

Born: 10/22/1959
Died: 2/8/2013

Mr. Michael Patrick “Taz” Kerrigan, age 53, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at his home after a courageous 15-year fight against cancer.
Born in Plymouth Meeting, PA, on October 22, 1959, Mr. Kerrigan was a graduate of Newark High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware. He made his career as a credit analyst working first with the former MBNA and later for Bank of America.
A devout Catholic from his childhood, Mr. Kerrigan was a longtime member of St. John’s-Holy Angels parish. He greatly enjoyed all kinds of sports throughout his life–especially Eagles football–and continued to enjoy swimming at the Maple Valley Swim Club, as well as playing golf with friends. Other favorite pastimes included playing pinochle, traveling, and, most especially, spending time with his beloved family.
Known fondly by family and friends as “Taz,” Mr. Kerrigan chose the classic cartoon character, the Tasmanian Devil, as his mascot in his brave and tenacious battle against cancer. He was a true and inspiring fighter who never let cancer limit his life. It was often said of Mr. Kerrigan that he could “bargain from his bed,” a reference to his much-admired and shrewd financial skills that did not desert him even when he was ill.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Irene Kerrigan; children, Miranda Kerrigan and Spencer Kerrigan; father and stepmother, Robert and Arleen Kerrigan; siblings, Norene Mast (Leon), Judi Deakyne (Mark), Robert Kerrigan, who was his twin brother, Kevin Kerrigan (Kathy), Jason Millman, and Nathan Millman (Bronwyn); mother-in-law, Diene Grabner; Peter Grable, whom he considered his brother; and his pet dog, Scooter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norene Elizabeth Thomas Kerrigan, and his sister, Janelle Millman.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 13th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday, February 14th, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Miranda and Spencer Education Fund, c/o Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home at the address above.
