Mrs. Mildred Evans, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Evans was born in Dover on May 30, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph McClements and Laura Lloyd. She made her career in the food service industry, working as a waitress at several area restaurants including Powder Mill, the Lynnhaven Inn, and the Wilmington Country Club. Mrs. Evans ended her career as a baker, retiring from the Canteen at the DuPont Company’s Experimental Station site after many years of dedicated service.
A gifted baker, Mrs. Evans delighted in creating delicious treats for her family and friends at Marydale. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and trips to Dover Downs to try her luck at the slots. She loved traveling, and had taken numerous cruises and trips to Florida. Mrs. Evans adored weekends spent at Spring Meadow with her daughter, where together they enjoyed happy hour with neighbors. Above all else, she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who will be deeply missed, especially by her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lawrence H. Evans and 3 brothers. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Linda Evans and husband, Chuck; sons, Larry Evans and wife, Bonny, Dennis Evans and wife, Debra, and Kenneth Evans and wife, Angela; brother, Lawrence McClements; sisters, Mabel O’Neal and Mary Evans; grandchildren, Chuck Jr., Susan, Bobby, Lawrence, and April; great grandchildren, Christopher, Kirsten, Kaylyn, Tyler, Cassidy, Isaac, Roman, Shane, Madaline, and Isabella; and great great granddaughter, Izabella Marie.
A funeral service will be at held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway New Castle, DE, where family and friends may call from 1 pm until 2 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
