Nancy E. Aukamp, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Born in Reading, PA on September 5, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Raymond S. and Vila (Geist) Herb. Nancy cherished her role as a homemaker for her family and as a food preparer at the Dog House in New Castle for 23 years. She was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she played the piano and organ for services. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking for her family.  Nancy’s most important job was loving her family, and she was so very good at that.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 62 years, Donald C. Aukamp; and granddaughter, Katy Aukamp. She is survived by her children, Donna C. Harding (David Cebula) of Newark, David G. Aukamp of New Castle, and Jack D. Aukamp (Arleen) of New Castle; siblings, Carol Richards of Raleigh, NC and Patricia Sumner of Bear; grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa), Jeffrey (Naimah), Angela (Vinni), Timothy (April), and Robert; and great-grandchildren, Bryon, Jacob, and Paisleigh.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where a funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA, 19106.

  • Donna, David, Jack — I am very sorry. Your Mom was the sweetest neighbor and a great supervisor (along with sister Pat) to a very young girl working at the Doghouse. A wonderful experience. Rest in God’s peace, Nancy.
