Nellie T. Dougherty

Mrs. Nellie T. Dougherty, age 94, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Brack-Ex in Elsmere, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
Mrs. Dougherty was born in West Hazleton, PA, on February 12, 1918. A talented and resourceful homemaker, she was greatly admired as a highly-skilled seamstress. Throughout her life she generously shared her sewing talent by designing beautiful clothing and gifts for both family and friends. In earlier years, she had been employed as a waitress with the former Harvey’s Restaurant in Fairfax.
A devout and faithful Catholic from her youth, Mrs. Dougherty was a founding parishioner of Corpus Christi R.C. Church in Elsmere, where she was very active in the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was also a member of Oak Grove Senior Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald P. Dougherty, and daughter-in-law, Christine Dougherty. She is survived by her sons, Gerald F. Dougherty of Elsmere and John P. Dougherty and his wife Barbara of Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to 10 am on Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 905 New Road, Elsmere. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
