Norma E. Shackleton

Mrs. Norma E. Shackleton (née Patille), age 80, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 16, 2012, surrounded by her beloved family.
A native Delawarean, Norma was born in Wilmington on March 11, 1931, daughter of the late Richard Patille and Conchetta Sansone Patille. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and, in 1956, married her husband, Dalton, with whom she raised four sons. A loving wife and mother and a talented homemaker, she was also employed for many years in the records division of the University of Delaware, where she retired.
Norma delighted in caring for her beloved family and was at her happiest when cooking wonderful meals for them and hosting large and joyous family gatherings. She also enjoyed vacationing at Walt Disney World in Florida, visiting with her many friends at the beach, and cheering each season for her favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Pivinski. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Dalton R. Shackleton, Sr.; her sons, Dalton R. Shackleton, Jr. (wife Susan) of Elk Mills, MD, Al J. Shackleton (wife Joan) of Chesapeake City, MD, David M. Shackleton (wife Mary Jo) of Geneva, NY, and Paul J. Shackleton (girlfriend Carrie) of Newark; and her greatest pride and joy, her beloved grandson, Sean Shackleton of Chesapeake City, MD.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
