Norma Victoria Bates, age 101, of New Castle, DE went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2022.

Born in Detroit, MI, on July 14, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Victoria and Charles Vollbrecht. Norma grew up in Manistee, MI where she enjoyed the beaches, picking wild blueberries, black berries, and morel mushrooms.

Norma was a book keeper and an assistant teacher at a daycare center. Active in her church and community, she was a dedicated member of Christ the Cornerstone UMC and a member of the Sweet Adelines for 10 years. She looked forward to playing pinochle at the Newark Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex in 1975; only sibling, Louise Schallhon. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara; son, Ron and his wife Kim; grandchildren, Justin and Melanie; niece, Nancy Grandy; nephews, Edward Schallhorn and his wife, Elaine and Thomas Schallhorn and his wife, Char; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Christ the Cornerstone Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
