Orlando J. Maccari

Orlando J. Maccari, age 81, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, 2015.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 4, 1934, he was a son of the late Joseph Maccari and Antonia (DeCrescenzo) Maccari. A member of the graduating class of 1953 from William Penn High School, Orlando was a standout athlete and was a member of the 1952 State Championship football team where he was named 1st team All State fullback and was the first ever recipient of the William Penn Booster Club’s award for the most valuable player. A skilled painter by trade, he owned and operated Orlando J. Maccari Painting Company for 40 years, retiring in 1999.
Orlando loved gardening, trees, caring for his faithful canine companion, Georgia and his pride and joy, his Cadillac. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching William Penn and Blue Hen football and the Philadelphia Eagles. Orlando was truly a patriarch to his family and was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas, John, Anthony, Luciano and Palmarino; and sisters, Rose Araidianco, Lena and Emma Higgins and Rita Freed. Orlando is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Kathleen J. (Chambers) Maccari; sons, Paul Maccari (Donna), Ronald Maccari and James Maccari; sister, Mary Hammed; sisters in law, Jeanette Maccari and Marie Spencer; grandchildren, Nicole Helm (Charles), Jennifer Rongstad (Kraig), Jason Maccari (Melissa), Richard Maccari, Juliana Maccari and Olivia Maccari; 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, November 14, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Sharpes Cemetery, Fair Hill, MD.
