Patricia Elizabeth “Pat” Matthews, age 82, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Born in Wilmington, DE on September 4, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Cichocki) Bielicki. Pat was a graduate of William Penn High School. She dedicated her life to her family as a talented homemaker.
In her spare time, Pat enjoyed bowling, ceramic making, and watching her favorite sports teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. She was an avid country music fan and loved Elvis Presley. Pat could often be found shopping at any store, she particularly liked QVC. Her favorite holiday to spend time and spoil her family was Christmas. Pat spent many hours every year transforming her home into a Christmas wonderland. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Pat never missed an opportunity to cheer at a sporting event, attend a school activity, celebrate birthdays, graduations and special occasions.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Eugene E. “Smiley” Matthews; children, Vivian Dillon (John), Monica Rodkey (Brian), Carrie Kitto (Dave), Gene Matthews (Colleen), and Scott Matthews (Angela); 18 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
