Paul Mulrooney

Paul Mulrooney, age 78, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 18, 2017.
A native Delawarean, Paul was born in Wilmington on November 19, 1938, and was the son of the late Martin J. Mulrooney, Jr. and Ethel M. (Mahler) Mulrooney. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School and then completed a five-year electrical apprenticeship. A talented electrician, Paul was a 55-year member of IBEW Local 313. He oversaw the installation work for many major companies in Delaware, including A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and Wilmington Hospital, and was well-respected for his strong work ethic and attention to detail.
A devout Catholic, Paul was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a former member of St. Peter the Apostle Church. While a parishioner at St. Peter’s, he gave of his time and talents by serving as president of the Athletic Association. Paul often volunteered to set up the lighting and construct the games for the church’s annual carnival and also did much of the general electrical work in the church hall. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, listening to music from the 50’s era, and spending time with his family. Paul was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend to many. He will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Campbell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lois Jean (Webster) Mulrooney; children, Charles F. Mulrooney (Patricia), John B. Mulrooney (Elaine), Sharon T. Sweeny, and Donna L. Hajen (Daniel); brothers, Martin J. Mulrooney III and David J. Mulrooney; sister, Barbara A. Cresci (Joseph); grandchildren, Jeffrey Weaver, Jr. (Ashley), Kyle Hajen, Jeremy Mulrooney, Justin Weaver, Kaitlyn Penn (Ryan), Brian Mulrooney (Angelina), Paul J. Mulrooney, and Sean Patrick Mulrooney; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Thursday morning, August 24, 2017, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
