Mr. Philip Walter Sullinger, age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed on Monday, September 10, 2012, at his home.
Born in South Versailles Township, PA, on February 5, 1936, Mr. Sullinger was the son of the late Walter Reed Sullinger and Marion Helen Wigand Sullinger. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He was later employed in the grounds and maintenance department of the Sanford School, where he retired in 2008 after 15 years of service.
A talented handyman throughout his life, Mr. Sullinger was well known and admired for his ability to undertake even the most challenging building projects. He was also a gifted cook and often enjoyed bowling with friends. Most of all, he will be remembered a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who delighted in spending time with his family, all of whom he deeply loved and cherished.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Johanna Helen Blunt Sullinger; children, Kimberly Bowers, Tina Dych and husband Walter, Philip Sullinger II and wife Katie, and Dionne Baylis; sister, Thelma Householder and husband Edward; and grandchildren, Alicia, Mark Andrew, Walter, Ethan, Andrew, Matthew, and Kendall.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 14, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th Street, Ste. 209, Wilmington, DE 19801; or to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
