Born October 15, 1922

Ralph Mitchell Young, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Grant, VA on October 15, 1922, he was the son of the late Marshall C. Young and Mittie R. (Grubb) Young. Ralph was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and participated in the D-Day Operation landing on Utah Beach as a medic. After returning home from the war, he married Mary Ellen Privett and shortly there after, moved to Newark, DE to work for Chrysler. Ralph retired from the company after 30 years of service.

He was a talented musician, who played the guitar, fiddle and mandolin. Ralph gathered regularly with his many friends to play old time music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Ralph is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen Young; children, Wanda Kesser (Rex) of Mt. Joy, PA and Larry Young (Sharon) of Middletown, DE; 1 granddaughter, Lara Kipphorn (Jeff); and 4 great grandchildren, Ben, Sophie, Jack and Max.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE where a funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
