  • Uncle Raymond -What I will Always Remember

I picture Uncle Ray as the traveler. Not one who jaunted off to foreign lands or cross-country adventures – he was the family traveler, like a door-to-door salesman… family member door to family member door to family member door . I always visualized him as picking “today” – this moment..… and deciding that it was time to take the family jaunt. His vibrant, energetic self, full of stories or maybe just an opinion – would fly into grandmom’s house back in the day or a rat-a-tat-tat at my parents’ house and I imagine yours too. Burst of energy, increasing the mood in the house – he stayed the perfect amount of time. The amount of time to share his story, to bring the energy, bring joy, bring a heated conversation and if you did not know it then, know it now – his presence at your door signified you matter to him. I wish I could remember the stories that he would tell, because I am certain that I was in a trance listening, especially Christmas around grandmom’s kitchen table. A little shot of “something – something” always brought out the most amazing stories.

I know that this is an incredibly challenging time for us. I am going to believe in faith and heaven – picture Uncle Ray has joined Uncle Manuel around grandmom and grandpop’s kitchen table. They are sharing their bonds, their stories and I hope even doing a little dance. They are protecting us, encouraging us, wanting us to celebrate life. They want us to continue the family traditions, come together and share their stories.

As I write this I see a butterfly, a very zesty, colorful butterfly which would be perfect. The biggest social butterfly of our family – Uncle Raymond may you rest in peace, and I hope you are happily travelling heaven’s doors.

Extra blessings to you Aunt Marie and Gina.

    Much love to all.
    ~~ Dena
