Raymond M. Byrd, age 70, of Bear, DE, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019.

Born in Cecil County, Maryland on December 3, 1948, he was a son of the late Raymond M. and Jolly L. (Baldwin) Byrd. Raymond proudly served his country in the United States military. After returning he began his career as a truck driver, working for many different companies.

Raymond loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing or skeet shooting. He was an extremely talented wood worker and created many amazing works of art. Raymond was also a classic car enthusiast. Most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Byrd, Richard Byrd, Joe Byrd, Jerry Byrd and Ernie Byrd. He is survived by his children, Melissa R. Byrd-Fisher of Pittsburg, PA, Robert R. Byrd of New Castle and Gina C. Byrd of Bear; brothers, Carson Byrd, David Byrd, Danny Byrd and Johnny Byrd; sisters, Tammy Byrd and Carlean Byrd; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow at St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Rd, St. Georges, DE.

  • Ronnie and I are saddened to hear that Ray has passed. We always enjoyed sharing gardening ideas with him and the competitions to see who had the first ripe tomato! He was a great neighbor to the Lewis family and will be sorely missed by all. Our condolences go out to all the family.
