Mrs. Raymonde Monica “Monique” Treadwell, age 91, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012.
Mrs. Treadwell was born in Paris, France, on March 7, 1921, daughter of the late Jean Louis Mingam and Josephine H. Deglise. A famous chanteuse in her native country, she was a close friend of the legendary Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker. At the close of World War II, she met and married American serviceman Harry G. Treadwell, Jr. and immigrated to the United States, where she continued to perform as one of the well-known “singing barmaids” of the Deer Park Tavern in the 1960s.
Harry passed away in 1989. She is survived by her son, René Biville, grandson, Cristophe Biville; and close friends, Daniel and Praserta Sanchez.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, July 30, 2012, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
