Reynold E. “Reyn” Cierniak

January 11, 1940 - June 24, 2019

          Reynold E. “Reyn” Cierniak, age 79, of Newark, DE passed away at home on Monday, June 24, 2019.

          Born in Chicago, IL on January 11, 1940, he was a son of the late Eugene Stanley and Jeanne (Konopka) Cierniak.  Reyn worked for Rocketdyne in California on the space program and then worked for I.C.I. in Delaware.  He was also an owner and operator of a farm produce stand.

          Reyn enjoyed his family and was involved as a CTJFL little league football and Piedmont baseball coach for his children.  He was a dedicated Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and you could always find him cheering them on.  Reyn was a devout Catholic and was proud of his Polish heritage.  He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.  His fondest memories were time spent with his children and grandchildren.

          In addition to his parents, Reyn was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome A. Cierniak.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemarie (Dlouhy) Cierniak; children, Eugene R. Cierniak (Inger) of Middletown, John J. Cierniak (Kim) of Middletown, Krysia M. Tramont (Ken) of Elkton, MD and Reynold P. Cierniak (Carol) of Toledo, OH; sisters, Carole Cierniak of Chicago, IL, Laurelyn Woods of Glen Ellyn, IL and Janice Cierniak of Westmont, IL; and 8 grandchildren.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, June 28, 2019, at St. Mary of the Assumption, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Reyn’s memory to St. Mary of the Assumption at the address listed above.
