Richard S. “Dick” Pachalis

Richard S. “Dick” Pachalis, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Born in Greenfield, MA on March 8, 1937, he was a son of the late August and Laura (White) Pachalis. Dick was a graduate of Greenfield High School in 1955. He proudly served in the United States Navy, beginning in August of 1955. During his time of service, Dick spent three years on a repair ship and one year on a destroyer escort. In August 1959, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. Dick continued his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA and earned his degree, graduating in 1961. He then moved to Newark, DE in June of 1961 to begin his 31-year career at DuPont Co. Dick worked as a computer system analyst, supporting DuPont computers from analog to digital computers, retiring in 1992.

Dick enjoyed spending his retirement traveling to new places and going on cruises. In his spare time, he loved tending to his lush gardens. Most of all, Dick’s greatest passion was his family. He cherished every memory he made with them and especially loved watching his children’s sports events.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his siblings, August Pachalis, Frederick Pachalis, Mary Muszynski, Rita Aldrich, Gail Duquay, and Patricia Pachalis; and granddaughter, Kylie Penuel. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Janice (Whiteoak) Pachalis; children, Jack Pachalis (Julia) of Newark and June Thompson (Joe) of Point Pleasant, NJ; grandchildren, Brandt Penuel, Hannah Pachalis, and Gemma Pachalis; brother-in-law, Joseph Whiteoak (Katie); and sister-in-law, Luella Pachalis.

All services will be held privately.
