Richard Victor “Rick” Nardo

Born: 1/30/1950
Died: 7/16/2012

Mr. Richard Victor “Rick” Nardo, age 62, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012.
Rick, a native Delawarean, was born in Wilmington on January 30, 1950. An incredibly gifted artist throughout his life, he studied at the Philadelphia School of Fine Arts and often cited the work of Salvador Dali as a significant influence on his own art. He was a talented musician as well, playing bass guitar and adding rich vocals to any musical gathering. Family and friends will also remember Rick as a fascinating conversationalist with a wonderful imagination and a charming, playful facility for telling the most humorous stories and spirited jokes.
In addition to his art, Rick greatly enjoyed reading, listening to music, riding his bike, and watching his favorite shows on TV Land. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his beloved family, particularly his grandchildren by whom he was affectionately known as “Poppy Rick.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Valentino William Nardo, Sr., and by his fiancée, Rochelle Solomon. He is survived by his mother, Mary Smith Nardo; daughters, Jessica N. Clendaniel (Wayde) and Danielle I. Nardo (fiancé, Drew Fioravanti); longtime companion, Wanda Kevis; siblings, Valentino W. Nardo, Jr. (Kathleen), Stephen F. Nardo, Roseann Opalach (Joseph), Patricia Deichert, and Mary Jo Nardo; his two grandchildren, Leah and Bodie; and beloved nieces, nephews and additional extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:45 am on Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Entombment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Val’s Needy Family Fund, c/o Newark Area Welfare Committee, P.O. Box 951, Newark, DE 19715-0951.
