Robert C. Chynoweth

Born: 5/19/1924
Died: 9/9/2011

Surrounded by his loving family, Bob Chynoweth, of New Castle, DE, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2011.
Bob was born in Vineland, NJ, on May 19, 1924, one of nine children of the late William and Elmira (Vuilleme) Chynoweth. He proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, and, in civilian life, made his 37-year career as an accountant with the DuPont Company at the Newport pigments plant where he also worked in the credit union.
A devout Christian, Bob was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years, active in various church ministries and committees. He also served several years as a board member with the Colonial School District. In his retirement, he spent many happy hours refurbishing furniture and making wooden crafts for family and friends.
Bob’s greatest joy, however, was spending time with his beloved family. He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, dad, and pop-pop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert, Marjorie, Donald, Clyde, John, and Charles Chynoweth, Dorothy Nelson, and Jean Varesio. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Chynoweth; children, Carol Ann Sherkey (William) of Wilmington, DE, Cheryl C. Abernethy of Hockessin, DE, and William P. Chynoweth (Michele) of North East, MD; grandchildren, Bryan, Megan, Jennifer, Kristen, Morgan, and Robert; step grandchildren, Eric (Erica), William, Michael, and Kendra; step great grandchildren, Ethan and Emma; brother-in-law, Albert Varesio, and sisters-in-law, Madolyn and Helen Chynoweth, all of Vineland, NJ; and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 7 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, DE, 19720. Visitation will begin at 6 pm. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or to VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Ste. 302, Newark, DE 19713.
