Robert Camp “Bob” Rein

Robert Camp “Bob” Rein, age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Born in Mt. Holly, NJ on April 2, 1927, he was a son of the late Fred and Lillian Rein. Bob was a graduate of Chester High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his service, Bob worked as a homebuilder and later as an engineering technologist for DuPont for over 50 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a former member and deacon at Fairwinds Baptist Church in New Castle and Grace Chapel in Warwick, MD. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. He had a knack for building things, and spent time working on special projects like building pews for his church, lighthouses, picnic tables, benches, and the like.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothea Guss and Fred Rein; daughters-in-law, Sue C. Rein and Victoria “Vicki” Rein. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Hazel L. (O’Neill) Rein; children, Robert C. Rein, Carol L. Rein, Dianne L. Rein, and Richard C. Rein, all of Newark; grandchildren, Erin L. Rein, Robert C. Rein, Jr. (Jessica), Nicole M. Norman, and John A. Rein, Sr. (Amanda); great-grandchildren, John “L.J.” Rein, Jr., Lilyana Rein, Chase Rein, Brooke Rein, Ryland Rein, Noah Rein, Jackson Norman, and Ava Norman; nephews, Freddie and Bobby Guss; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 12 noon on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

  • I am deeply sorry for your families loss , ide only known Bob since 1978 and he was generous sharing his knowledge and expertise to a younger man during his time at Dupont. I learned so many technical things from him. My heart is heavy for all of you for your loss of such a great inspiration and man that I looked up to in the bussiness world , RIP Sir I will never forget you Bob.

  • Sorry for your loss…. I worked with Bob in the late 80s early 90s but lost touch with him after I was laid off and he retired. I often thought of him and how he was doing. It is always sad when we loose people but I am happy he had a long life. Good man who I got to enjoy in my early working years. He and I flew to Chicago on a work trip [my first flight] and he scared the hell out of me talking about a plane like we were on crashing in O’Hara where we were going. If I had heard he passed I would have showed up. I admired him, one of many of my mentors. RIP my friend
