Robert Charles “Bobby J” Janiszewski, Sr.

Robert Charles “Bobby J” Janiszewski, Sr., age 83, of Delaware City, DE, passed away at home on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Born in Chicago, IL, on April 29, 1938, he was a son of the late Eleanor (Prucha) Kalinowski and Edward Janiszewski. Bob graduated from Salesianum School in 1957, then made his career with the former Tidewater Oil Co./ Getty Oil Co. He later pursued entrepreneurship with his best friend, Phil Cruchley, at Seaway Service, Boyer & Cruchley Inc., and many other business ventures before retiring in 2004. Bobby J was a lifetime member of the Delaware City Fire Company. He served as assistant chief and he was the first deputy chief. He was a 59-year member of the Lions Club, a member of Delaware City Recreation Club, and St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Bob was a State Fire School instructor, a Delaware City police officer, a Delaware City town councilman, a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a social member of the American Legion.

Bobby J married the love of his life, S. Marie Binder, in 1960. Together, they raised four children. He loved providing for and spending time with his family. Bobby J also took pleasure in working and happy hours. He was very involved in his community, and mentored many young men that valued his guidance. Bobby J will always be remembered as a proud and shining resident of Delaware City.

In addition to his parents, Bobby J was preceded in death by his son, Donnie. He is survived by his bride of 60 years, S. Marie; children, Robert “Chuck” Janiszewski, Jr. (Kathy Lowe), Michael (Chantel), and Karen Snook (Matthew); brother, Edward Kalinowski (Debra); sister-in-law, Virginia “Bootsie” Boutin (Ted); 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 pm on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Delaware City Fire Company, 815 5th Street, Delaware City, DE, followed by a celebration of life at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobby J’s memory to the Delaware City Lions Club, PO Box 338, Delaware City, DE 19706.
