Robert L. Walker, known fondly as “Bob,” age 88, of Bear, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Walker was born in Wilmington on April 28, 1925, son of the late Alfred DuPont Walker and Martha G. Little Walker. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II as a member of General Patton’s famed Third Army Combat Engineers.
In civilian life, Mr. Walker would go on to make his career as a professional carpenter. After working in building construction for over 40 years, he retired from Union Local #626 in New Castle. Among his proudest achievements was designing and building his own beautiful dream home. In later years, he greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife and taking trips to Atlantic City.
His beloved wife, Mary Anne Spence Walker, passed away in 1994. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Alfred, Walter, William, and Vincent Walker. He is survived by his brothers, Clifford Walker (Alice) of Wilmington and George Walker (Elaine) of Middletown; special friend, Cathy Lenker of Dalmatia, PA; and many nieces and nephews, including Joyce C. Logan (Robert) of Elkton, MD.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
