Robert Lester “Baldie” Joyner - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Robert Lester “Baldie” Joyner

April 11, 1952 - October 21, 2020

Robert Lester “Baldie” Joyner, age 68, of Bear, DE, transitioned to heaven on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

Born on April 11, 1952 in Portsmouth, VA, Robert was the only son of five children of the late Marvin and Alice Elizabeth.

As a youngster, Robert learned many skills from mentors in his community. Later in life, he worked at the Norfolk Shipyard and General Electric (GE) in Portsmouth, VA. He gained his apprenticeship as a welder in JOBCORP prior to his employment with GE. In the late 60’s, Robert was on a two-week vacation in New York City and decided he wanted to stay. There he applied to General Motors in Tarrytown, NY, where he worked as an assembler for 35 years, before retiring in 2005. Robert became a team leader and worked with outside dealers to put a plan together to help General Motors become more efficient. He championed the vision General Motors had with its workers and management through the United Auto Workers Union.

Robert was a coach for his son’s little league baseball team. He was a very precise, no nonsense man. Robert has left his son with a vast memory of knowledgeable experiences, “how-to’s,” and the importance of being a devoted and loving husband and father. Although younger but a wise man, he was a protector of the females in his life, particularly his wife, sisters and daughter.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia and Jackie; grandmother, Alice “Bunch”; and uncle Lonnie. He leaves to cherish his passing his wife, Peggy D. (Dismuke) Joyner; children, Yolanda and Robert, Jr. (Narcisa); grandchildren, Zoѐ, Amir and Naomi; sisters, Joann and Pharelda; and many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones, too many to mention.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Christ the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE 19701. Face masks will be required for all in attendance. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s name to Christ the Cornerstone Methodist Church, at the address listed above.

  • It is with a heavy heart that I remember my great neighbor who gained his wings. Robert was always that neighbor who was willing to provide a helping hand, word of encouragement and simply a great smile. It was because of him that my interest in visiting Canada got bigger. I couldn’t wait to get back to the States and, more importantly, back to the neighborhood to share with Robert the fantastic experiences had while visiting.

This brother will truly be missed, yet, never forgotten. Peggy, what ever you need, I am just a few steps down the street.

  • My condolences to your family. God be with your family during this difficult time. Losing a loved one is challenging, be blessed.
