Robert Lewis Whitlow

Mr. Robert Lewis Whitlow, age 75, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his home.
Born in Kyle, WV, on May 31, 1937, Mr. Whitlow was the son of the late James T. Whitlow and Mary Anne Foster Whitlow. He was a member of UAW Local 1183 and was employed as an assemblyman at the former Chrysler plant in Newark, where he retired after a long and successful career.
An avid sports fan throughout his life, he greatly enjoyed cheering each season for his favorite teams–the Phillies, the Eagles, and the Flyers. He also looked forward to planting and tending a beautiful garden around his home each year. Most of all, he will be remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, whose happiest times were always those spent in the company of his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Werts Whitlow, to whom he was a wonderful and loving husband for 57 years; daughters, Rita Calvetti and husband Mike of New Castle, Darlene Taylor and companion Kenny Shockley of New Castle, Mary Halter and companion Scott Smith of New Castle, and Rhonda Powers and husband Daren of New Castle; two brothers; four sisters; two brothers-in-law; seven grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Knick, and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the funeral home, where a second visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
