Robert Mancil “Buddy” Hackendorn, Jr.

Robert Mancil “Buddy” Hackendorn, Jr., age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Born in Wilmington, DE on June 21, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert Mancil and Grace Eve (Bedwell) Hackendorn, Sr. Working for various companies, he devoted his life to helping others as a tow truck driver. Buddy always marched to the beat of his own drum.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Clark; and special aunt, Christine Reed “Aunt Billie”. He is survived by his children, Bonnie Hackendorn, Christian Hackendorn, Robert Hackendorn III and Christine Hackendorn; companion of 26 years, Janet Blankenship; 6 grandchildren including his adored granddaughter, Ashley Tracey; brother-in-law, Robert Clark; special aunt, Patricia Gorecki; favorite cousin, Joanie; and former wife, Nancy Brown.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Entombment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

  • Worked with Bob in the early days at Hoechst. It never seemed like work when you were with him but we still got a lot of good work done. He worked hard to maintain his image of a partying bandito but was a really caring and enjoyable guy. Saw him on and off over the years and will always treasure his friendship.

  • Uncle Buddy was a Great uncle i often thought about him as a child his mother my aunt Grace was Wonderful too.And aunt Sandy.we never seen them any more after my Daddy died. Earle j.Bedwell i was 11years old..I have fond memories of you.Uncle Buddy…Rest in jesus now.
