Robert N. Johnson, Sr. “The Crab”

Mr. Robert N. Johnson, Sr., age 64, of New Castle, DE, died suddenly on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Beebe Medical Center.

Born on October 1, 1945 in Wilmington, DE, Mr. Johnson was a lifetime member of the Minquadale Fire Department wearing many hats during his years of service including, vice president, treasurer, Board Trustee, and manager of the social halls bar. He had the distinction of being named member of the year twice. A true outdoorsman, Mr. Johnson enjoyed deer, goose, and duck hunting, fishing, and crabbing. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching Nascar and rooting for the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers. Mr. Johnson was an excellent softball player and was a member of many different area leagues. He retired from Delmarva Power after 33 years of dedicated employment as a 1st class pipefitter. Above all, he was a true family man who loved and adored his family.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his mother, Betty DeWitt Loroni and step-father, Larry Loroni. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carol L. Houck Johnson; sons, Robert N. Johnson, Jr., and wife, Debbie of Wilmington, Ronald W. Johnson, his wife, Eileen, and his stepdaughter, Christina, all of Newark; daughter, Donna L. Mahoney and husband, John of Wilmington; grandchildren, Haley, Kelly, Allison, Dallas, Brendan, and Ryan; and great-grandchild, Jaiden.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 pm on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
