Rosalia Sarmiento - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Rosalia Sarmiento

September 4, 1933 - November 27, 2022

Rosalia Sarmiento of New Castle, passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning (Nov.27) surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 89. Rosalia was born in the Philippines Sept. 4, 1933. She later attended elementary school even as WWII raged in her country. After graduation from high school, she attended college and earned degrees in Education and Commerce. After working in business, Rosalia took a position as a schoolteacher and retired after 35 years of teaching mostly 2nd and 3rd graders, some of whom she kept in touch with until her passing. Rosalia immigrated to this country in 2005 and was proud to become a US Citizen a few years later. Rosalia was a sweet and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who always had a smile on her face and something nice to say to everyone she met. Rosalia enjoyed the small pleasures in life, visits with family, watching games shows, but her favorite was watching the Philippine Basketball Association. She also looked forward to car rides to Battery Park with a wheelchair excursion along the river-walk.  Even during her last days on this earth on hospice care, she had a positive attitude and a strong will to live. Rosalia was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by her family and her many friends here and abroad.

Rosalia is survived by her husband of 56 years, Josue Sarmiento; and their five children, daughter, Josephine Dalupan (Mark) of New Castle, daughter, Jocylin Duffy (John) of New Castle, son, Toti Sarmiento (Rochelle) in the Philippines, daughter, Jacquilyn Siapno (Freddie) in England, and daughter, Judelyn Sarmiento in England. She also leaves behind her oldest grandson, Ricky Sarmiento of Newark, who she raised in the Philippines before the family came to the United States together; eight other grandchildren in the Philippines and England; and one great-grandson in Newark, DE.

A special thanks to Heartland Promedica Hospice, especially the nurses and Chaplain, during this trying time. All your love and caring are deeply appreciated by the family.

A visitation for friends and family will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 801 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
