Rosemarie Austin

Born June 28, 1936

Rosemarie Austin, known fondly as Rose, age 77, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013.

Rose was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 28, 1936, and was a daughter of the late Hermann Folgel and Helen Nock. She made her career as a secretary with Child Inc., located in Wilmington, and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. Rose, along with her husband, were active in the horse racing community at Delaware Park, where they owned several race horses. Above all else, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Rose is survived by her husband of 42 years, William A. Austin; son, David Painter of Wilmington, DE; and sister, Dolores Genaldi of New Jersey.

Services and interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Rose’s name be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.

7 Condolences for Rosemarie Austin

  • Rose was a woman of great grace and strong character. She organized highly successful fund-raising social events, moving easily among all levels of power and privilege, to benefit Child, Inc., to which she was devoted. Despite physical challenges the last 15+ years of her life, she remained the active, gracious, loving person well-known and loved by many. Her sense of humor was delightful and her loyalty to family and friends everlasting.

I’m grateful that she dances freely now, unhampered by the earthly bonds that once held her.

    Dorothy,
