Russell Logan “Rags” Reynolds, Sr.

Russell Logan “Rags” Reynolds, Sr., age 74, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE on August 12, 1950, he was a son of the late Charles and Caroline (Mattson) Reynolds. Russell made his career as a jockey. After retiring from riding in 1997, he continued his career in the horse racing industry as a valet.

Russell loved anything involving horse racing and was a proud member of the Jockey’s Guild. He was a man of faith and member of The Journey church. In his later years, he was a very proud and active member of AA. He especially loved his dogs and relished any opportunity to spoil them.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Reynolds; 4 brothers; and 1 sister. He is survived by his children, Russell Reynolds, Jr. (Tammy) and Gypsy Goretz (Justin); 4 sisters; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Rebecca Manley.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 2 pm. Inurnment will be held privately.
